2by2 is the bi-annual student-run design magazine, by the students at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. The first issue ‘What Do We Talk About?’ covers discourse and debate on topics relating to campus culture, pedagogy, and student life. From AI in design and working in group projects, to queer voices and the notorious hostel dogs – this issue touches themes of education, hierarchy, and identity, made by the NID community, but relatable to people from all around.
The editorial has a playful, energetic visual language, bouncing off from the enthusiasm of the student community as they yearn to create. It also questions the relevance of a periodical for educational campuses, and looks at learning beyond theory and practice, but more as experience sharing, leading into new ways of seeing – a coming of age.
Purandar Dutta, for his vision of bringing NID magazine back, Tanishka Kachru and Praveen Nahar for their unending support, Bonita Vaz-Shimray for guiding Nikita and I in the first draft of the magazine, Sharan Adka for his views, Ranjan De and Mandakini Menon for showing us the history of NID editorials, Tarun Deep Girdher and Yogesh Patil for print guidance and Rajesh Dahiya who said, “Don’t be design nuns.”
Finally, thanks to the NID community for their voices, enthusiasm and discourse. This is by them, and for them.
